As I promised here's a description on how to extend the trial period for windows OS (it's completely legal)

If you like me re'install every 3-4 months there really no need to buy windows as MS already allows you to try their software for quite a long time.

sorry if my screencaps are confusing but my windows is Danish

in windows open the start menu type cmd the command promt icon should pop up, right click it and the select "Run as administrator"
(say yes to what ever UAC promt that pops up)

Now all you have to do is type

slmgr -rearm

A notify box will tell you that you have to restart for the changes to take effect

this will extend your trial period for thirty days, I suggest you wait till the 30 days run out to get the maximum time out of it

once you have done this 3 times (120 days total) you can extend the period further

It's important you wait with this one till after you used the first 3 rearms

by editing a registry key you can get another 8 rearms giving you a year in all for free (I only done this once as I always end up re-installing much sooner)

open the start menu type "regedit" and press "enter" say yes to the UAC if you get one.

browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

or do a search for "SoftwareProtectionPlatform" or older versions of windows "SL"

just make sure that in the bottom you get the correct path like in the bottom of this

open (doubleclick) the key called "SkipRearm" add the value 1 and click "ok" then exit regedit

now reboot you computer

and you should now be able to get about 360 days out of your windows by using slmgr -rearm another eight times

only downside in windows 8 cant remember if it's the same in 7 is that you get a small white text in the bottom right corner

oh and UAC promt - is that annoying window that pops up whenever you try to install or make a system change

If you have any questions - write them here

Thx Soup,

I run a ghost back up clean from start up and also make a back up ghost on AV updates.

I use the ghost after my banking online etc. it only takes 6 min to return me to windows.

Also on the odd occasion when I hit a snag on my machine, ghost back in 6 min. I never use windows restore I find it's crap..

If you're that paranoid, just boot a Live Linux CD each time you want to "bank".
